I'm in the U.S. and wanted to get the cost to upgrade. I'm getting it
in pounds, not dollars. I dont know how to convert it either, plus it
may be a different price. Seems like other things are listed for the
U.K too.

Got the same bug, although I'm French.. :-)

Perhaps will you find what you need there : http://www.tomtom.com/en_us/localechange.jsp

(I first tried to replace the "en_gb" with "en_us" or "us", but it
did'nt work exactly as expected.)

The web site was designed to select the offers and pricing based on your IP
address but maybe their tables are wrong or maybe some routing issue is
causing that problem. When your browser reaches to the TomTom site home page
go down to the bottom and above the site map section you will find a link
named "Please select your country or region".

I used to own the 130s, a little old. Picked up the 140s for around $90
and sold the 130s for $50 on Craig's list, not only got latest maps but
the 140s is a better unit. I find the pricing of upgrades to be too
expensive, plus even with the latest maps these things still don't keep
up. I have a small problem since moving to NC which is shared by
other(Garmin) units used by friend's and family. Still, I find GPS to be
invaluable and wish they had been available when I was younger and
driving more (and got lost more).
