I've got a iPaq PDA hooked up to a Holux GR-231 Bluetooth GPS.
On the PDA I've installed a copy of TomTom mapping software.

I tried testing it today by planning a route from my home to my mothers a
few miles away. Bloody hell!!!
The damned thing talked me all the way there. The accuracy was spooky. The
lag negligible. The little icon thing(representing my car)on the screen was
exactly where I was all the way there.
Incredible stuff!

hmmm, yeeees. when you get to your destination, can you load up memory map
and yomp your way several miles overland to an antiquity on a 1:50k OS map, view
the location on an aerial photograph, take a photograph of the location, perhaps
make a small video of the location, then phone someone up to tell them about it ?

no ?

****, I can do that on my mobile phone......

as someone else said, welcome to 2005 ;-)

3G is a nice idea but I don't think it covers the remote areas I travel to.

That's ok, flips seamlessly to 2G and back.
Having the OS maps with me on the phone is fantastic, my bluetooth GPS is
tiny and locks on really fast to get a quick look at the map.

Yes, as well as about a thousand gameboy colour games, SNES games, sega
games and anyone of the thousands of java games available. Commodore 64, ZX
spectrum, and so on.........

I used to own an Ipaq 2210 but have now given it the the wife as I can do
everything on my 6680 that I used to do on the Ipaq. I even have an Indiana
Jones DVD as well as 20 episodes of the Simpsons and a couple of hundred
MP3's...........................

OK the screen is much smaller but it's more practical to carry around.
