Having just been given a Garmin eTrex H unit, I was looking for a way to
connect it to my Vista laptop via USB.

Most of the RS232 - USB cables I looked at didn't have Vista drivers, but
/this/ one installed first time on both Vista and XP.

I bought it via amazon uk from ABC Products for less than £7.50 with
delivery less than 3 days from the order.

A lot of these are based on a small number of chipsets. The Prolific PL2303
has been the basis of most of these I've come across and the driver for this
is part of the native Vista set - probably for others too - so they just
work
out of the box.

Just think how much easier it all is with an Etrex Venture HC which works
with a USB connector and even comes with a USB lead.
No extra leads to buy here!

Aye, I didn't need one until I needed one either. Then I did need one, and
now I've shared the info on where I got one with other people who may need
one. If you don't need one it's not relevant.
