For about 20 min around 0900UTC this morning my tomtom refused to
get a fix. The weather was good and I was on the M6 Preston Bypass
which AFAIK hasn't moved since it was built.
Six good satellites were showing in the status screen.
I tried re-planning the route, and switching it on and off
several times but to no avail. A colleague who was driving
in another part of the country at the same time had no problems
After about 20 min it was OK again.
What do you think caused this?

Had it been working with a good fix up to that point, or had you just turned
it on? If you don't use a GPSr for several days, or move away from where it
was last used, they take time to relocate their satellites and lock in
again. (Though 20 minutes does seem to be a long time to do that!) Was it
powered from the car battery, and its internal battery charged up?

It went haywire about 45 min into my journey, it had been alright prior
to that. Battery fully charged and operation on the charger.

Out of date GPSFix data and/or incorrect time set on the unit.

On a PC with Tomtom Home 2 installed, connect the Tomtom and search for
updates. Listed will be the GPSFix data. Update that and it will find a
fix faster.
