The 'Europe' map that came with my TT One XL appears to
be one big map, rather than a set of separate maps for each of the
countries it covers.

That implies that the map for one country (e.g. France) cannot be
updated separately, but would need the whole Europe map to be
replaced.

If that is *not* true I would appreciate info on how to update one country...

Not true physically - you can simply add a one country map separately and
then manually switch from France to Europe as needed.

If you have some special discounted "update" price that is cheaper than a
new map purchase price, then whether that discount will be available is a
different question and one that TomTom could answer or you could discover
for yourself from the online map store.

Yes, of course - but that might blow the 1 GB storage limit!

(Actually, now that I have a 2GB SD card ( needed to be able to
add the S.Africa map), I do have oodles of space to spare..)
