Modify that to---

Copy favorites from my old GPS onto my computer so I can reinstall them
onto the new one I will get later. Keeping the old one until I get the
new one is not possible.

Please follow the steps below for copying your Favorites.

1. Connect your Nuvi to the computer with your USB cable. It will then
go into Mass Storage Mode.

2. Open up 'My Computer' on your desktop.

3. Open up the Nuvi drive. Usually it will say Nuvi E:.

4. Next, I would like for you to open up the 'Garmin' folder.

5. You will see a 'GPX' folder. I need you to open that one up.

6. There will be a 'current.gpx' file in your unit. Right click on the
file and hit 'Copy'.

7. Go to your desktop, right click and hit 'Paste'. This will put that
file, which is your favorites, onto your desktop.

8. Right click on the file, select ‘Rename’. Rename the file to
‘current1.gpx’.

To transfer your favorites to a different unit:

1. I want you to do steps 1-5 from above with the second device.

2. Go to your desktop, and copy the current1.gpx file you put on there.

3. Go to the GPX folder and paste the file here. You will now have two
files in this folder. Leave both of them there.

This will put your favorites into the second device.

The simplest way (I think) is to use BaseCamp which you can download from the
Garmin Website
http://www8.garmin.com/support/mappingsw.jsp

You can transfer all your waypoints from the the old unit into BaseCamp, and
then transfer them back to the new one. This has the advantage that you will
have all your waypoints safely backed up in case you ever lose them on the
Nuvi.

I have tried once but don't remember the exact steps. So if I am not 100%
correct, then it should be pretty close. Cuz I don't thing there is any
other way around (?).

1. You need MapSource installed on your computer to do this. The problem
that ion the past few years Garmin stop including MapSource to newer buyers.

2. Run MapSource, connect your GPS to computer.

3. From MapSource you tell it to Import (or Transfer) whatever data from GPS
to MapSource (I don't remember how many options). Then SAVE to COMPUTER

4. Then later transfer it to the newer GPS.

NOTE - it will transfer to newer GPS *but* the distance may be OFF a
little (it could be between few houses to 1-2 blocks).

Base on this (little OFF) I am guessing that the MAP + FAVORITES +
MapSource (and whatever) may not work real well with each other as ONE SOLID
UNIT.
