There are dedicated forums where such information is available (by gathering
tests performed by the user community).
For 840 maps (and some 835), it is there :

You might also learn many things on such forums and almost any kind of
question regarding Tomtom devices, maps and softwares will be answered in a
couple of hours (not to say minutes ...).
