Occasionally I hear it say (from the glove compartment) something like
"left turn ahead" or "you have reached your destination".... There is
nothing plugged into it. One night I had left it on the top of the
piano, and it started talking in the middle of the night. I thought
there was someone in the house.

Hi Rick,

This problems has been around for quite awhile now, and Tomtom can't seem to
come up with a fix. There are hundreds of references to this problem on the
internet but I have never seen anyone say they fixed it.

Mine turns on exactly 7 days 0 hours from when it was last updated, so maybe
it has something to do with updating the

Quick GPS Fix file. I can't find a fix despite 3 enquiries to Tomtom
support. Nothing they suggest works. I now keep my

Tomtom XL where I can see it so it doesn't come on and run down the battery.

Let us know if you find a fix!

Regards,

Larry

We have that problem also so we try to bring it in the house to keep a vigil
on it so the battery dosen't completely drain.

OK thanks folks. I thought it may have been unique to mine. Seven days
exactly from the last update seems weird. Afraid I'm neither a ferret
or techie, so I'm not likely to come up with a fix, but I'll keep
watching......

The battery shouldn't completely drain to where is would be dangerous,
these things have protective circuitry The 130s would drain and not
power up after about 3 weeks even when turned off. TomTom claimed this
was normal. My 140s still drains when turned off, but much more slowly,
it's always been able to turn on, but I will charge from AC supply every
month or so if I don't use.
Never had either unit turn on and attempt to start a conversation.
On the units that would not power up, nothing bad seemed to happen
except to take a longer time to become operational after turning on
whilst charging.

How about if you did a recent destination but you never completed or just
wanted to view it as a map or route etc. This stays in the memory try to
clear route and see what happens.

OK, I have often cancelled a destination. I'll try what you suggest,
but I still don't see why it should turn itself on randomly. If I turn
off the TV or radio, I don't expect them to turn on automatically.
