I was looking for where the TT Home2 stores its backups. Wasn't in the
program files directory. Anybody know the location?

Thanks - Oppie

Thought that the backup was in a hidden location...
Forgot that TomTom Home2 sets all folder locations in the options menu.
Found it now.

Wanted to copy the old backup to archive system state before I do a new
backup.

It's your choice and I don't recall the default but suspect it's somewhere in
My Documents. Anyway click the border Tools pulldown and the select HOME
Preferences lastly click on Folders to review or change where various types
of files are stored on your computer.

Yep, it was in plain sight under TomTom Home2 Preferences under the Folders
tab...
I'm so conditioned to search the registry for a 'tomtom' string in order to
hack it that I totally forgot to check the obvious.

I opened the folder where the backup is stored and saved it to a DVD
(filesize 1.05GB) just to archive the present state.

Home 2 only produces a selective (i.e. incomplete) backup. Connect to Home
2 then use Windows Explorer to back up the complete TomTom drive.

Makes sense. Last backup only took less than a minute. Way too short to do a
complete backup. Was wondering if it was an incremental backup. It spent
more time thinking than actually writing data.
To make an archive backup, probably best to just go to the windows file
manager and find the tomtom there. No need to use the TT Home program at all
(iirc). The tomtom shows up in file manager as an external memory device
(drive). Should be able to grab the top level and drag it to a blank DVD to
burn a copy of the contents.

Yup. When I put my GO in the PC cradle, it fires up TT Home 2, so I then
fire up WE (don't use "Disconnect my device2 - that performs a logical
dismount) and make a full backup to my hard disc (I use TTyymmdd as the
folder name for the backups and keep only the 'last' and the 'new'). Saves
on DVDs. On a PC without TT Home 2 (or on a Mac without TT Home 2) Windows
will detect the TT, as it does any other 'normal' USB device.

Home 2 now makes a full backup (not as before).

Not exactly an "incremental" backup ...it just overwrites modified files
to the backup folder. Then you only have the present configuration saved
but no way to recover the previous one if you did not copy the folder
to another place.

Makes even more sense now. Thank you for pointing that out.

When you are planning to make a backup of your TT, don't use the backup
from TT-home, but use one of the backup programs in your navcore.
Use the one corresponding with the O.S. of your PC, so W7; Vista or XP,
most of the navcores have them all 3, the older ones have 2.
When you use one of them you will find the backup zipped in your system
partition ( C:\ ) in the map TomTom.
Then you have a complete backup of your TT.
Good luck,

Nic
