I'm looking to get a new GPS for my motorcycle in the spring. I know the
Garmin has its Zumo 550 (450 has been discontinued) and TomTom has one as
well. I want to go with Garmin. The 550 has been out 2 - 3 years. Does
anyone have any insight if Garmin will be coming out with a new motorcycle
    model in 2009 ?

    Thanks

What features are you lacking with the Zumo?
I use a Nuvi 650 & am quite happy with it although not waterproof.

There rumors about an upcoming Zumo 660, sometimes showing up on Garmin
    site.

    Talks about it at www.zumoforums.com

I'd like to see custom avoidances, other than that I'm happy with my
Zumo 550. Bluetooth is a bit flaky, but that's normal for Bluetooth.

Here is a comparison on the 550 and soon to be released 660:

    https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=133&compareProduct=15000&compareProduct=414

The 660 is quite a bit cheaper than the 550, the major reason is that it
does not include the XM hardware and is not XM compatible. That would
    be fine with me.

I spotted one immediate stupid software designer's annoyance. The zumo
550 handles 500 waypoints and 50 routes. That is a good thing for
planning and routing control purposes, both of which are important to
bikers. But the 660 does 1,000 waypoints with *only* 10 (yes, ten!)
lousy routes. That is so stupid! It is like doubling the engine
displacement and using the original carb, intake, and exhaust.

It would have only take a programmer a moment to change a few numbers
and the routes capability would be consistent with the old zumo
capability. Or they could have even increased it and advertised that as
as a new feature. But no, instead you have to base your choice on
negative values. Which is worse, only 10 routes or a smaller display?

If Garmin had merely skimmed the "whats wrong with the zumo list" at the
zumoforums, or read the "most wanted fixes and features" list, they
could have given consumer the impression that Garmin is interactive with
customers, listens, and cars about what is wanted on a device. And they
would have a much larger number of bikers eagerly awaiting the new 660.

    Sheesh! Garmin is so inept!

Excuse me, I have to go polish my 2610 up for another season's use.
