About those Garmin "refurbished" Nuvis....?

Has anyone here had experience with refurbished Garmins?

I purchased a 1450 Garmin Nuvi today from Amazon. Reviews from Amazon's
site on the unit reported great performance, etc. However, after my
purchase, I wonder about the U.S. map included. Would this be an old,
outdated map (since it's basically a "used" unit) or would the Garmin
"factory refurbished" unit have the current maps on them? Or.....

..... is it possible that Garmin will allow a one-time download of the
current maps on refurbished units? Please comment. Thanks.

Note: after I get the unit, I'll be back for some really lame newbie
questions about using MapSource (if necessary) and/or other ways to use
the 1450!!

BTW -
Here's a comparison between the 1350 vs the 1450
http://www.gpsdemoreviews.com/2009/1...-1350-vs-1450/

One of the features that I'd like to play with is the "routes",
but not really wanting the larger screen, heavier, and shorter battery life.

I have bought a Garmin factory refurbished unit from Amazon. It had the
latest map from the date of refurbishment, and checking the Garmin site
after I got it home, I was eligible for a free updated map.

Have you actually been to Garmin's web site to ask this very question?

Thanks, I think.

Same here with a Nuvi 1490T. No problems have surfaced since May 2010.

Thanks for that info. I suppose I'll just wait for the unit to come in
and check status. After getting the unit, are you saying that the
Garmin site will be able to provide map update info/status, etc., on my
specific unit?

Note: I told you about forthcoming newbie questions! :-))

I don't necessarily find the Garmin site easy to navigate, but it is
often very helpful once I do track something down.

Do you ever listen to Car Talk? A frequent question to the caller is
"Have you taken it to anyone?". It's usually good for a laugh, but like
on this newsgroup, the caller/poster often gets a good answer anyway.

Still, there's a possibility that Garmin has the answer you need. I do
see that others in this thread (me among them) have also given you a
useful bit of info :-)

You sign up at the Garmin site and register your product.
https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/marketing/register.htm
You then hook your Garmin up to the computer and check for updates. The
Garmin site will check your registered GPS for maps.
It will either say 'your map is up to date' or you are eligible for an
updated map. You then download the updated map to your Garmin.
