Is there a way to reset a Tomtom One to factory default settings?
Mine has gone crazy. It no longer knows my home location yet still
knows the name of my private roadway (which is a name I gave the
roadway, not an official name). It also insists on retaining the
names of places I recently visited.

I intentionally ran the battery dead and left it disconnected from
power for 4 months, thinking that would erase all the personal stuff.
All that did was make it act more confused while still retaining
personal stuff.

I have no use for the thing, and just want to sell it. But I want all
personal data removed before I sell. Is there any way to reset it
completely to factory defaults, or is this data stored on a satellite
for my particular serial number, and can not be removed. If that's
the case, I'd rather just destroy it.

To get rid of "Favorites", "Recent destinations",...
Connect to PC.
Start Windows Explorer (or Mac equivalent).
Navigate to your device.
Navigate to each map in turn (if you have more than one) and delete
"mapsettings.cfg" file.

To reset to "Factory defaults", search the menus on your device (or read the
manual).

If you made a backup when first purchased (I always do), then make a new
one just for safety, connect to computer and reformat (check fat system
being used first, although formatting to fat32 should be ok). Then
restore the initial backup.
