Setting Route Preference on GO Live 750

Hi

Ive recently bought a 750 Go Live (UK + Europe)

When travelling back home from London I prefer to travel North via the
M1.

However my TT seems to avoid the motorway as it always chooses the A1. I
note there is an option to avoid motorways but in this case I want to do
exactly the opposite.

Is there a way I can set it so that it always chooses the M1 for that
part of my journey home? At the moment I have to keep telling it to
find an alternative route and eventually it chooses the M1.

I'm enjoying my new 750 but I'm still learning how to navigate my way
through its options!

Thanks for any info.

Ian

Construct an Itinerary and place a waypoint in it at the point where you
wish to join the M1.

You could try telling it that a particular point on the M1 is a point
you must pass. Select a junction, then select the point just north of
that junction by zooming in. Once you've located it, save it as a
favourite to save fiddling later.

It's a trick I use on various makes of Satnav, not just Tomtoms. It's a
kludge, but it works for me.

At least on the 710, that doesnt work very well. It doesnt automatically
move on to the next item in the itinerary as you pass each one.

Maybe you could explain exactly what happens when you see that fault. Does
the TomTom keep giving you driving directions toward that waypoint or what
else does it next give in the way of driving directions?

The itinerary certainly will automatically move on so long as you actually
follow the directions right up to the waypoint and do not choose to just
pass through somewhere you judge to be close enough and also ignore any
directions to turn around.

If you place a waypoint say on the wrong side of a divided highway or in
intersection exit that you won't actually pass through and you also ignore
any directions to turn around in order to reach the waypoint, TomTom will
indeed (and correctly) believe you did not yet reach the waypoint, will
keep directing you towards it and of course the itinerary will not move on
automatically until you reach it.

Have you tried 'Prepare route'?

I already did.

Nope.

None, zero, nada, ziltch. It stops giving driving directions.

You have to enter the itinery section again and have it ask you if you
want to navigate to the next item in the intinery at each waypoint.

No it doesnt. Thats with 6.525

I'm not talking about that situation.

No, you only said what didn't happen.

I guess you do have a fault. Maybe TomTom support can figure what is going
on. In various vehicles and in various countries I've now got TomTom's
from the Classic of 2004 through the 910, which is essentially the same as
your own 710 but with a hard drive and multi-continent maps, and on to the
XXL 540s. In all of those Itineraries work just as it says on the tin.

Maybe to debug this you might modify one of those problem waypoints
temporarily by changing it into an intermediate destination and then see
whether you ever get the "You have arrived at your destination" message.

Yep.

And thats what matters with that fault.

I should try it with a 720 I can borrow.

I've given up on them, they were completely hopeless the
last time I had a problem. Got it fixed in a forum, the clowns
at Tomtom didnt even realise what the obvious fix was.

OK, if it works fine in the 720 I'll try updating the app.

I do get that every time. The problem is that when I drive on to
the next waypoint, I dont get any driving messages to get there.

When I go into the itinerary section and accept the offer of directions
to the next one, I do get the driving messages until I get to that next
one and then they stop again once I get there.

Er, then that's not a problem with the TomTom. If you get that message
every time then you are configuring those points not as waypoints but as
destinations. After adding any point into an Itinerary you must then set
its type to be either a waypoint or a destination and it appears that you
are not setting those points correctly.
