Hi,
I bought a Tomtom 730, I think it was, and gave it away because I couldn't
figure out how to use it the way I used my Garmin, so I got another Garmin.
I would still like to know if it is possible to have it work the same way my
Garmin works.
I usually set the garmin to about 3 miles per 1/2 inch, and can see the
roads for about 10 miles ahead of me which is how I prefer to use the GPS.
No matter what scale I set the Tomtom to, after 11 seconds it just goes back
to the street level view which renders it of no use to me because I can
already see what is in front of me.
To clearify, after 11 seconds, the Tomtom reverts to street level, I guess
you call it, view. I mean it returns to basically what you see when you
look out of the car windshield. Did I miss something, or is this just the
way Tomtom's work?
My son is of the opinion that is just the way Tomtoms work, and that is the
way most people prefer to use a GPS.
Thanks,
Al

dunno bout the 730, butIi would assume it similar to my 930

the units default is to auto zoom .. the closer you get to next turn
(and also to an extent the more 'builtup' and area, the closer the
zoom .. in sparsely populated areas, it will zoom way out

you can disable the auto zoom .. tap screen, change prefs, automatic
zooming .. and turn on/off

once turned off,you can set your map to desired scale using the +/- in
top corners of the map display

I have an XXL IQ Routes Edition using the v8.550 application and I have
seen no control over autozoom in the menus or in the documentation.
