My tomtom ONE seems slower than when I first bought it. I am now
using a 2GB SD card. Can anyone tell me if a faster card would make
much practical difference.

An unbelievable difference. When I had TT on my Nokia N70, many of the
problems were caused by slow memory cards.

It does speed up route calculation significantly.

But don't expect an SDHC card to work.

I noticed that, thanks. Is there an easy way to identify a fast card
that is not SDHC?

Yup. It's 2Gig or under. SDHC is over 2Gig. (Secure Digital High Capacity)

It'll also be boasting about high speed on the package and card.

Not necessarily a recommendation, although I've used them successfully
in other applications:-

2Gig or more, so watch out.

2Gig is not SDHC. Apart from firmware limitations in older card slots,
2 Gig is the limit for FAT16 formatted drives. SDHC shows as FAT32 in
file management programs, SD shows as FAT16, in my experience. Some card
slots may have lower limits, though.

Yes, it will not say HC and it will not have a Class 2/4/6 on the package.

Be careful, 2GB card are available in both SD and SDHC specifications.

I think Mr. Williamson wants to learn the hard way.

Tell me where I can get a 2 Gig SDHC format card, and I'll try one out.

I've only ever seen SDHC advertised in sizes of 4 Gig and up. I'm always
willing to learn.

I'd not mind trying a 4Gig SD card, which is also allowed by the
standard, if I can find one. I've got a couple of SD-only units that
could use the memory boost.
