I currently have a Binatone satnav that works superbly well
Unfortunately it has no mcx or mmcx connector.

I am about to build an open top kit car where the satnav will have t
sit under a metal scuttle, obviously this is going to affect gps fixe
somewhat.

Can anyone please recommend an equivalent satnav with an externa
antenna connector, or information on modifying the binatone one.

My parents have a myguide satnav that does have the connector but th
interface is awful and the company have gone bust so we can't ge
updates. If I copy the operating system from the Binatone to a new car
and run it, will it work? guessing they are both based on CE wit
relatively similar hardware

Another approach is to use a device such as this with your Binatone:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330464866528.

That looks like a damn good solution, anyone know how well it works?

Wife's car has a thermic windscreen and pretty effectively 'hides' the
satellite signal, this appears to be able to be wired in and simply
left to do it's business without faffing ..

It worked for me in days of yore when I had the original (classic) TomTom GO
and before the newer generation of more sensitive GPS chipsets (SIRFstarIII)
were deployed.

Heh, yeah, I think getting the wife a better (read that as newer) Sat
Nav might be an altogether better solution .. this one's not been
updated for about 5 years or more ...
