Hi,

Anyone know if it's possible to get hold of a list of speed camera locations
with lat/long coordinates(or grid references, or whatever)?
My GPS software doesn't support speed camera alerts as such, but what it
does have is the ability to give a proximity alert on a pre-defined set of
waypoints.
I'm thinking that if I could get hold of a list of the location of the speed
cameras, I'd have a basic camera-warning type thing...

Regards,
Chris.

The cameras are added to the map as "points of interest", at least on
TomTom, and many such navigation systems are supported.

Yea, thanks, I found that. I was hoping for somthing that didn't cost at
least on a trial basis as I'm not sure if it'll even work yet...

Well, a quick thought before a proper Google.
You could d/l a TomTom set (poi format) which was posted in
a.b.warez.pocketpc on 8/4/08.
I'm reluctant to post the latest - you never know who's watching and I have
a free subscrition.
Then d/l poiedit from their site (free).
Probably other editors which can produce xls/csv files.
The PocketGPSworld site which has the best camera lists, also has MemoryMap
format files which are xls/csv.
probably other formats too.

Bon chance!

The locations are often publicised by local councils or police forces. If
you can find a list of your local cameras you can try the idea out. But the
pocketGPSworld lists are very complete, and updated monthly so are
definitely worht the cost if you can use them.

Try
Register for free at poiplace
http://poiplace.oabsoftware.nl/

Then login
Download the Tomtom speed/traffic camera data base

Tomtom have a program that will covert the database back into a text
file that can be opened in any text editor or spreadsheet.

The text file will have lat/long co-ordinates.

Perhaps you can explain why you're busily robbing POIs from website
across Europe then?

I should clarify, POIPlaza is using POI data obtained without
permiussion from a number of websites both here in the UK and across
Europe.
