Recommendation needed for map update: DVD vs download?

My new Nuvi 1450 is authorized a map update before 14 October 2011. As
I understand there are possibly two more updates left this year for
download. However, my Internet connection is quite slow.

1. Can I download the authorized map onto my laptop at a high speed
location (my town's library), then install the map onto the 1450 from
the laptop later at home?

2. I understand I can order the 2012.10 DVD in lieu of downloading for
a $10 shipping fee. Is this 2012.10 version really "almost" as good, if
not as good, as if I downloaded the latest version now? Note: I "think"
the difference would be negligible.

Please comment. Thanks.

I think the safest procedure would be to set your laptop up with the
software, then take it and the Nuvi to the library, and download it
there.

Be sure to install the map on both the computer and the GPS. Then your
map software on the PC works with the latest map too. It's an option on
the web site that can easily be overlooked.

Why would you expect the DVD to be different from the download?

Thanks for the reply..... I will probably do as you say: download at
the library to the PC and 1450. Why not!

The DVD IS different from the download according to Garmin tech support.
They say the DVD version (once a year) doesn't maintain currency with
the 4 times/year updates.

OK, thanks for letting me know about that (obviously I didn't!).
