Early this morning I posted an article about 'straight line' and the Garmin nuvi on the Garmin Tricks and Tips Web site.

I know that you know how to use your nuvi to ascertain straight line distance between two points.
In Google Maps, if you click on the Options Tool 'gear' in the upper right you can enable Map Labs and then Distance Measurement Tool to accomplish that task.
But, and I just checked, it didn't work for me this evening. I have, however, used it before - but it has been a while.
Maybe you can get it to work for you later and post your findings.
