Me too. I posted this because there were a lot of
people who did not want BT.

Pretty soon Garmin will offer web access on their GPSs, but that means
something else they currently have will have to go.

My 1490 has data access over cellular, and one use for it is points of
interest. I can choose to search the internal database, or I can hit
the Google tab and let Google tell us where it is I'm looking for.

I'm finding that more useful than I thought.

I purchased one of those refurbished 1450s for $99 from Amazon. They're
as good a a new unit, as far as I'm concerned. All's well functionally;
however, the 1450 in general is still slow as January molasses when
rendering maps, panning wide map images, as well as almost ANY map
function requiring the touch screen. Oh well....

Well, it seems like you are living in the past as Garmin has already
released a version with Internet access.

I don't have one, but read about it few years ago. Also, you have to pay
for internet service not free.

Haven't heard that complaint before----Maybe that's what was wrong with it
in the first place.

Display speed is one of the things that you're expected to buy a 37xx
for. You might not be happy to pay $300+ for a GPS unit, but you're not
getting nothing for doing so.

Correct. BTW, my 1450 isn't unique to slow map display rendering. I
tested other 1450s in Best Buy, elsewhere, and saw the same poky, jerky
map scrolling display. And I did test a 37xx something or other, and it
was smooth and fast, as you wrote.

All in all, the $99 1450 is fine, it does quite a lot, and the 18th
century CPU speed is OK for most uses.
