I've been going the setup features of my nüvi 250, and I can't find any
where to activate the alert sound.

I need it, so that the connection to my helmet (mc) is opened, prior to the
spoken commands starts.

Is that feature no longer in use in the Garmin's ??

hmmm - not seen it on the Nuvi -
what GPS model did you have previously,
or info that made you think there was a "pre-sound" alert
to any audio commands ?

I don't remember the model anymore, it's somewhat 6-7years ago, since I had
it. But at the time, it was the newest. And it had a "Pongg" sound prior to
any spoken command. Back then, I found it annoying *lol* (*pongg* ... Turn
left ..... *pongg* ... Turn left)

I don't see it as a guide signal to other devices, think it just was ment as
a form of notification to the user, that a command was on its way.
Anyway, if it's not in the models any more, I'll just have to find a way, to
get the kill time in my intercom shorted.

The sort of thing that used to precede announcements in airports? After all,
the airlines knew that passengers were quietly going bonkers with
frustration...

My 2720 has it. My wife's 255W doesn't. I like it and use it...especially
