You might want to check the new Nuvi 2460. I also like having the 'geeky' features which is one reason I liked my old Street Pilot 2610. The 2640 allows 4 customizable tabs on the side of the screen. Each tab can display one of the following:
- Arrival time
- Arrival distance
- Time to destination
- Via arrival
- Distance to via
- Time to via
- Direction of travel
- Elevation
- Time of day
It also allows external trip planning using MapSource (or BaseCamp). The planned route is uploaded and selected without having to 'import' from My Trips as had to be done on my Nuvi 755. The route is immediately available in the new Trip Planner feature, but I just got the device and haven't had a chance to use it with an imported route.
Garmin has also finally restored the ability to specify Custom Avoidances and also the distance of a Detour but they have to be activated (only once) by drilling down in the 'Tools' configuration and selecting 'Advanced Detour'. Using this allows you to choose either the distance to detour (0.5, 2 or 5 miles), or 'Detour by roads on route' where you can choose to detour around multiple locations along the route.
