I've had experience of both, which is why I mentioned it. Only with a
Medion PPC150 running the Navigon software, though, (SIRFStar II chipset
with a pancake antenna, I believe) as I can't afford multiple GPS units
to test.
The new-to-me iPaq messenger 6515 has only been out to play in a coach
so far, so I couldn't say whether that would be affected, although from
the way it locks on to satellites indoors within a couple of seconds
once it's got the full almanac data from the web, it probably won't be.
It's a marginal thing, with the sensitivity of the receiver combining
with the combined reduction in signal from all sources, including trees,
rain and the like, as well as the receiver being able to know where it
was from the last good fix, combined with a knowledge of where it
expects to be now from the satellites it can see judging from the
almanac data it stores.
