Memory Map tracks...

Running Memory Map Navigator 5 on a Mio P550 and PC running XP. I have a lot
of tracks that were recorded in Memory Map on the PDA over the past few
years, and my PDA maps are being cluttered up - I would like to save them
and view them **individually**. I have connected the PDA via ActiveSync and
ran the PC application, gone to PDA > Import Data from PDA. All the tracks
are now displayed on my PC versions of the maps.

Whereabouts (directory) are these stored? Is each track given a single file
or is it all one? Or are they not saved until I save them each individually?
I would not like the tracks to load each time I load memory map, but I would
like to load them manually. Again, I would like to have the tracks backed up
somehow.

Many thanks

Marcus

I've never imported tracks from a PDA myself but I assume they just go
into the Overlay Data, so after the Import operation the tracks can be
seen by doing Overlay -- Properties.

If you just do Overlay -- Export Visible, MM will save the lot as a
single .mmo file. To view them individually at a later date you will
have to save each one to its own file and load them individually.

When you close MM down it saves its files in directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\My Documents\Map Overlays\

Its current settings are saved in file Memory-Map-OS-5.mmn and the
overlay data in file userdata-Memory-Map-OS-5.mmo. It also preserves a
backup of the settings only, in file backup-Memory-Map-OS-5.mmn

Ok, I saved them all in another directory on a seperate drive as an .mmo
file. They all load now when I load memory map. If I delete them from the MM
screen, will the original .mmo file I saved be affected?

If you have saved them explicitly to your own file, you can now delete
them from MM using Overlay -- Delete All, without affecting your file.

I see. And they will be replaced again when I reopen this file then?

Yes, just do Overlay -- Import and navigate to your file to load them.

Thanks - I seem to have been able to save them all individually to 100 or so
different files, but it would have been nice for the computer to do that for
me.

If you select a track, the pop-up menu includes "send by email". If you have
configured and use the email on the PPC, then you can send them to yourself
as attachments. Otherwise, once you have chosen "send by email", save the
unsent message to Drafts, and then rummage around the filesystem. Somewhere
you'll find the email attachments of the unsent mail. Rename to a .mmo file
and you have it. Clumsy, yes, but that's what I have ended up doing in the
past.
