I have made three attemps to reach Magellan tech support and I am
still without a reply. Has that been the usual experience of the
members of this board?

regards

Pierre

I recently made only one attempt to reach them (by their online form),
quickly realized it was hopeless when I didn't receive even a
computer-generated acknowledgement that my request was received, and
promptly gave up :-)

Magellan has a well deserved reputation for horrid customer service and for
failure to deliver map and software updates on schedule.

In the past I've had more success by phone than by e-mail.

Jerry

My 4040 failed. Two months after making an online request for warranty
service, I still have to see a response from Magellan. Luckily Costco took
it back with no questions asked. A shame, because it was a very useful
gadget.
Any recommendations what to buy with the $350 that I received? Oddly enough,
I am considering buying another Magellan -- from Costco, of course. Does
anybody knows if they ever fixed the problem with night mode working only
for the map screen, and all other views blinding?

Anything made by a company other than Magellan.
Poorest "customer service" on the planet and possibly the entire solar
system.

From a cursory reading of this newsgroup and some web pages/blogs, it
would appear that Magellan's tech support is mostly aimed at causing
you the most amount of pain possible.

Right up until you read the Garmin newsgroup. They pretty much have
the same complaint.

"Customer service" seems to be lacking in this market.

Alas, newsgroups tend to attract whiners and complainers and a
dis-proportional number of those who have legitimate complaints to register.
People who would just have nice things to say seldom even go there.

Other forums paint quite a different picture of Garmin's support.
Most praise it. Compared to Magellan, they are saints.

One weak spot for Garmin is email support. It doesn't seem to exist at all.
Phone calls are, apparently, quite a different matter................if one
goes in with a legitimate problem and reasonable expectations.
