I have a Garmin 2 Plus GPS. I am getting the low battery message everytime I
start the unit. I know it means the onboard battery needs replacing.

Question

Does anyone have schematics and can point out which capcitor is requiring
replacement?

Thanks

Garmin backup battery problem:
http://joe.mehaffey.com/li_bats.htm
http://www.garmin.com/support/faqs/faq.jsp?faq=11

Garmin has had a problem with internal memory backup batteries going
flat in some G12 series, GII/GIII+ and possibly some others.

There have been conflicting reports blaming this on either a bad batch
of batteries or on a shortoming of the internal backup battery charge
circuit.

If you get a message that your backup battery is flat, first try
fitting fresh main (AA) batteries (ideally alkalines) since the backup
battery charges from the main battery, though rather slowly.

If after a week to two weeks the message has not gone away, even if
your unit is well out of warranty, contact Garmin.
Their policy is apparently to repair/replace for free units up to five
years old with this fault.
