I just did like explained:
1) downloaded Legend 3.50 soft version
2) unzipped and renamed 017901000350.rgn to 015401000350.rgn
3) connected and turned the gps on
3) started updater.exe
4) updater is updating and when it comes to 100% gps turnes off.

I tried to turn on gps immediately but Updater says device is not
responding bla, bla.

While upgrading original Venture soft erasing starts after updating
reaches 100% and software upgrading after erasing.

I have also tried with 017901000340.rgn renaming to 015401000340.rgn but
the same thing.

Anybody could help, I want 10000 track points?

Some versions of the Venture wont work with this.
Turn on your Venture while holding the click stick pushed in.
Look at the screen. If it says Bravo Version 7, it should work.
If it says Bravo Version 8, it is probable that it won't work.

Thanks.
It is 8. What is Bravo version?
Is there anybody with Legend soft on Venture and having Bravo version 8?

Can I downgrade to version 7?

It's some sort of "harware revision level", I believe.
No, you can't change it(other than by getting a different GPS).

I experience the same failure on my Venture, Bravo version 8.
Check the newsgroup archives(via Google) - at least one person
with Bravo 8 has had it work.

My receiver is a Mariner (same as Venture except a non-transparent
white cover instead the transparent green), Bravo ver. 7.
Update to Legend v3.40 first seemed to work, but the on/off button was
without function (so turning the unit off or resetting the unit isn't
possible) and when I clicked on the menu option "Use With GPS Off" the
display turned off (the unit itself stayed on, so I was able to reload
the Venture software). Then I tried updates to v3.20 and v3.50 with
the same result.
Update to Legend 2.22 worked properly (file size 2.xx smaller than 1
MB, 3.xx larger than 1 MB!), but this software has not the benefit of
10k WP etc.
Update to Vista 3.50 (regarding experiments were briefly described by
someone in this group or in alt.satellite.gps) fails like mah
described for the update to Legend.
Obviously I have to be satisfied with my Mariner/Venture like I was
before I heard about those upgrades :,-(

What is the advantage of this upgrade, is it simply an increase in the
number of waypoints and routes?

You will get a scientific calculator on the accessories page (useful
for, e.g., calculating tree heights based on distance and elevation
angle), an ownership page at startup, GPS Accuracy as a selectable
field in the trip computer, map, and compass pages, 10000 waypoints
instead of 500, 10000 track points instead of 2048, 750 points in the
saved tracks instead of 250 (IIRC), and 125 route points instead of 50
(which means, the trackback route will be closer to the original track
since the trackback route is generated from a saved track based on the
number of points of a normal route). May be, there are some minor
advantages I have not detected yet.
You will loose the availability of POIs (world wide city / marine
point database etc.).

Gert has covered everything I have found, but had a slight slip of the
finger - only 1000 (not 10000) waypoints instead of 500. Actually, I
only get 999, but I'm not complaining.

I made the same mistake in another post above, don't know why, I'm
thinking of 1000 but typing 10000. Thanks for correcting, Peter.
