There are a number of GPS loggers in the market that enable
you to cross reference your holiday snaps to the location
the picture was taken. I have seen so many different models
on offer that I am getting a bit dizzy, can someone out
there please help? I need something that:

- Can run at least 18 hours on a fresh set of

batteries.

- Ability to run on non-rechargable batteries

- It should work when its inside the outer pocket of my
waterproof jacket

- It should be able to log every 15 to 30 seconds and it
should have enough memory to store 7-14 days (12 hours per
day) od logging data.

- I do not need fancy software, as long as it can give me
a list of my photos with coordinates I would be happy. Of
course anything extra would be a welcome bonous.

Any suggestions?

Any GPS unit that handles pedestrian mode and puts out a GPX file will
work, as long as it handles the track accurately. My ASUS R300 with
its rechargable and replaceable Lithium Ion battery and a 2 gig
microSD or 4 gig microSD would work, other than the 18 hour
requirement, as you can use software easily to read the GPX file and
see the time and geographical attributes with one second accuracy, so
as long as your camera is set to the correct time it is easy to match
up the two.

The issue then is the 18 hours and non-rechargable batteries. So you
are looking for a unit that uses either AAA or AA batteries and has
enough internal memory to retain what you want kept, or uses something
like an SD card to hold the tracks... Good luck looking...

And while you're at it, why not gouge out your eyes and rub broken glass
into the bleeding sockets? About the same level of pleasure involved in
either option.

One of the colour Garmin eTrexes, that uses a microSD card. eg the eTrex
Legend HCx or Vista HCx.
They have a claimed 25 hour battery life from 2 AAs. I think this is
fairly accurate, I've had a pair of good NiMH AAs last for 24 hours on
my Venture Cx.

They can be set to record the track to the microSD card, so add a 1GB
card and it will easily have enough memory to log the position for weeks
or even months.

Steady Steve, I did qualify my remark, and anything is preferable to the
dogs dinner the OP (technically he was the OP) made of this NG
on the 27 Aug.

I guess that to use OE is quicker than installing FreeAgent again, thanks
for the reminder - I used to use it. But I mainly share material these days.
However I am somewhat disappointed, Steve and Graham, that you choose to be
unpleasant about it.
Dog's dinner of the NG, indeed! Perhaps a butterfly fluttered in a far off
forest, but no more than that....
Be at peace.

No one was unpleasant, but if you continue top-posting and acting like a
moron, I will be.

Some people prefer 'top-posting' 'cos it's quicker to get at the last
message, I believe.
Also, how is one acting like a moron by doing so, please?

(a) By doing it, in the face of overwhelming evidence that it is not the
norm.

(b) By making specious claims about prefering it because it's quicker to
get to get at the last message.

(c) By being too dim to find the delete key.

(d) No doubt such people **** in their pants because it's easier than
taking them down.
