A view of the grounded ship from space:

http://spaceflightnow.com/news/n1201/22ship/ship.jpg

The port side hull is ripped open so, evidently, the ship struck the
rocks while heading north. The GPS AIS track shows that. Then the
captain executed that sloppy 180 degree turn bringing his ship back
towards the rocks where it grounded and stopped.

It was interesting to review. You run your ship over a reef and you
just might hit rocks. I guess the Captain thinks charts should show the
individual rocks on a reef because he stated his charts did not show any
rocks.

Check this also, which shows not only the ship's track, but also
its rotation, etc.

Thanks, will look and perhaps re-blog. Indeed the explanations
by voice are questionable.

Does anybody have a GPX track file from the ship? I suppose someone out of 4000 passengers must have recorded the track on his iPhone or whatever gps device.
