I just received my new Garmin Legend and I want to use it for the mountains
of Arizona while climbing. What topo map software have you used for mountins
and trails. Any good deals out there?
Thanks

I've only used the Garmin Topos. I think that there are
probably more detailed mapsets available but I haven't
researched it. I'll be interested in the replies as well.

I use Garmin's MapSource Topo USA. I've mostly used it for the
northeast, but it shows just about all roads, trails, streams/rivers,
detailed shorelines and islands for lakes, rivers, and oceans (I've
used it kayaking), and topo lines (elevation lines). It has served me
well.

Besides official Garmin topo maps there are hundreds of open source maps
available at various servers:

Everything depends where do you want to go.

I have legend and I have started making my own maps. I have found it to be
easy using the following resource.

Cathy,

Have you notice that the contour lines aren't very accurate
in the NorthEast? That's probably my biggest complaint with
the Garmin topos. I've been standing there looking at a
100-200 foot hill in front of me and the garmin says it's flat.
