I wonder why they did that. I've been pretty unimpressed with my Navigon-5
software.

I believe Navigon has stronger business relations with the European auto
and mobile vendors which would open and/or allow greater penetration of
the European OEM markets for Garmin.

Brand recognition elsewhere, probably. It surely isn't for the IP that
they put into their devices...

Probably they are thinking abouot market share and its control. We are still
lacking decision about plans regarding PNAs.

What a device was it? Now the is Navigon 7.5 and the maps are a lot better.
Especially maps of the Western Europe, even more so Germany. Anyway, Navigon
is making them for approximately 20 years.

It was a Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox N500 (employee deal). I criticise not
so much the maps as the functionality and reliability. Example: if you exit
the program but fail to wait several seconds for it to relinquish the GPS
device before powering down, the only way to use GPS again is to do a soft
reset.

Not the maps. They were made by a company called AutoAtlas, the
only competitor to the other map maker, NavTech. I think that
both companies have been bought relatively recently, however.
