I hate the way Garmin have their preferences. I use my sat nav in a Ca
and on a Motorcycle. When on the Motorcycle I usually want to go th
most scenic route - no option for that you just have to figure the mos
scenic route yourself by using POI's or looking on the map before you
trip.
Say I wanted to get from Point A to Point B in a Car if you pic
shortest distance it can take you through all sorts of small roads et
so you think that fastest time would be the best option. "Well no
because when you pick fastest time it too can take you all the bac
roads etc. The reason being, it looks at the speed limit of the road
and calculates it from that. Now you and I know that the Nationa
Speed limit is 60mph but some of these roads you would be lucky to ge
up to 30mph because of the twists and bumps etc. The only way to foo
the system is set the Preferences in your sat nav for all roads to b
the same speed limit then set the preference closer to Prefer Highway
this way you will get to be directed onto roads that are reasonabl
good. I have a motorcycle for touring so I reverse the preferences t
prefer minor roads as I like to sight see.
However my point is that there is little choice for the type of roads.
I would like it to show in preferences = Motorways 0-100% - A road
0-100% - B roads 0-100% etc that way you could set the sat nav up t
accommodate.
Before sat nav I used autoroute express and it was fantastic it als
had a scenic route option which I used many times for the motorcycl
and it did take you places that were very nice. I think Garmin need t
think again. Not sure if other sat nav's are the same maybe you coul
tell me
