I need to write something innovative or relatively innovative for my
graduation thesis, entire work should be focused on gps track log, poi
and its application. Obviously a graduation thesis should focus on
somethin relatively new. So that's why I'm here: what could be a
innovative use of poi and gps log that u would use. I'm not talking
about a given brand or device, it will be a conceptual talk.

Thank you
Best regards

Those that walk for exercise would find something that keeps track
of where you have walked, how far you went on each walk, and
which kept track of the effort involved because its uphill etc and
how often you try a new route and find it particularly enjoyable etc.

There are also other uses, some of which tend to be considered
infringement on rights.

With or without appropriate court orders, it is pretty easy to tell
where the device has been, speeds travelled, etc. etc. I have heard of
this being used in divorce cases. So far havent heard of some vehicle
manufacturer using it in avoidance of a warranty claim, but that doesnt
mean it would be impossible.

POI's appear to be heading for online advertisement type tactics, you
are cruising an unfamiliar town, and your location, if you agree, can be
sent to an app that would check for stores, food, etc. of your
preferences, or locations that are offering discounts, sales, freebies,
etc. Some apps even can send electronic coupons to the phone. Another
use is to flag current speed traps. Just how realtime this is I don't
know as that would depend on someone spotting the officers and sending
their location to a server that can flag mobile users--this is more
typical on smart phones with gps.

I would expect more merger in the gps/phone/handheld business over the
next few years. A gps doesnt need a central server, but it cant offer
you a couple bucks off an espresso either. In a few years, your smart
device should be able to detect your driving habits and offer you a
coffee stop as you travel.

Presumably geocaching is well enough known you may or may not include
that.

GPS devices combined with transmission capability have all sorts of
options from tracking cattle, impaired humans, delivery trucks, taxis,
to slightly less helpful ones such as wayward spouses, or plot lines in
crime shows.

Other posts in this thread reminded me that there are farmers who use
GPS to guide them in their plowing or other machinery use.

Interesting, this scenario is already implemented in some device?

Simple speed trap info, yes. For realtime reports you'd need a smart
phone or similar with GPS, since it would need to feed your location
upstream and get the latest info from a server.

Dunno if this has been done, but it is really similar to existing
capability to feed you real time food locations, etc. etc. etc. so I'd
be more surprised if it doesnt exist than if it does.
