Here's a page of Garmin city maps specific to pedestrian use:

<http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/us/maps/cityxplorer>

Used with nuvi 1200, 1300 & 1400 units, you get lots of
pedestrian-specific features.

If you're otherwise interested in topo/hiking use, there's a zillion
other units suitable to that purpose.

Consider the Satmap Active 10. I am very impressed with it.
See http://www.satmap.com/index.php

I poked around their site for about fifteen minutes and was still
unable to find out what the screen size was.

Unit size in centimeters, they reveal.... but no screen size.
