How to find features?

Is there any place to find what features a particular TomTom has? For
example I can't tell which units support itineraries.

There once was a time when every TomTom could do everything its hardware
allowed. But then the marketers took control and whimsically started to
remove software features from particular units to create more price points,
but they didn't make a place that lays out a matrix of all the differences.

Before I bought mine I downloaded the instruction book from their website,
for the model I was interested in. I went through it carefully noting if
it had the features I wanted and how easy it was to use those features. I
did the same thing when I was looking for a new mobile 'phone, downloading
the instructions for several different makes/models before deciding which
to buy.

Thanks, it sounds easy but there are bugs. The device I'm now considering
is the 330-S. I could just guess it's 100% the same as the 330 except for
the addition of TTS, but no one is telling me that and there is no 330-S
manual on TomTom's site. I also note that the manuals for later models of
ONE all mention that doing a factory reset will lose any Itineraries that
have been created, but I'm pretty sure all those models have software that
has been hobbled to remove Itinerary support from their menus.

Nowadays marketing seems to mean: create a mist of non-information behind
which they can do their thing. Afraid transparancy is not a trend.

Also you can install non official navcores (at your own risk ... but
thousands of people, including myself, are doing that) on your device, in
order to get benefice of ALL features, as long they are included into your
map.

Have a look there :

You can download the manual and read it.

Thats quite a good approach with any electronic/hi tech device.

The manual will certainly tell you that.

They had no choice on that. There was no other way to compete
once so many of the very cheap GPSs showed up in the market.

Yeah, but very few operations do that, or even list what each model can do clearly.

You're of course forgetting that TT can change the features when & if
they choose to by just issuing a 'must have' software patch

Nothing can ever cover that later change, particularly one that happens
after you buy the device. You can however keep using the version you
bought and return to using it if you back it up properly before updating.

Unfortunately my back up did not work after I had downloaded the new
'improved' software for the new maps, which I of course have
subscribed to. One of the downfalls of that patch was the restriction
on the voice prompts so that it can not be used via RF, all other
options stop the use of an Ipod. The reasoning given was that if the
TT was going to broadcast on the FM band it had to be a continual
signal & seeing as the voice prompts are not then they had to block
the use off. This of course is a fallacy as you'd be listening to the
music you are broadcasting from your TT so the signal would be
continual but TT being so anally retentive can't see this.

If I did roll back the operating system then I wouldn't be able to use
the new maps & getting stuck on the M6 toll was bad enough, never
again. The old machine was going absolutely berserk as it didn't have
clue & thought I was heading off country...
