I got this thing in Summer 2006. I just want to know how to LOAD A MAP
onto it. No Web support. Using their "Maggie" live chat just kept
bouncing me back to their help page. I wrote to them.

They told me that the eXplorist had been out of production for "quite
some time" but that I could call them and upgrade to a great NEW unit!

Their site says that the eXplorist went out of production in April 2008.

Their customer service mail said that it was confidential, and I was not
allowed to share it with anyone. So I think if you're reading this,
Magellan might sue you. Heads up.

And still no idea how to load topo maps onto it.

Magellan support has to be one of the worst of the GPS makers.

I have an eXplorist 500.. It is adequate for what I use it for.
But, when I eventually have to replace it, I won't buy another
Magellan product.

What kind of Topo maps do you have?

You need a registered version of Magellan's MapSend Topo maps program.
With it, you can mark a region and upload it to your GPS unit.

Or, If you have legacy files from older Magellan applications, you can
use Magellan's Mapsend manager to convert them to eXplorist format.

I may be wrong, but don't believe you can upload third party topo maps
to the eXplorist series....

Well, that was my question to them. How do I get and upload a topo map
to the device! I just want to get a map of a specific square mile or two
and put it on there, and they won't answer me. I'd only used it for
positioning against a map before. (Actually, I was using an OS map in
Scotland.)

I ended up using a Holux GPSlim unit in conjunction with my smartphone
and Google Maps, just to see where I was in relation to a satellite
view. Not a perfect solution, but it wasn't THAT strenuous a trail.
