I have a Dakota 20, I bought it for use on a walking trip in England,
I bought the map package for the area I was traveling in; I was not
overly imnpressed. I am now planning a bicycle trip in France and
Belgium and I would like to convert the google map for the area that I
will be in for use on the Dakota 20. Is this possible? How?

Also I am using some software at bikemap.net to plan my route and set
up waypoints, these are apparently output in a GPX/KML file. can this
be directly imported into the Dakota for waypoints or will further
massageing be required.

I know this request has probably be made here may times, I am new here
so please be gentle :-)

Many thanks

You might be able to use http://mobac.sourceforge.net/
Mobile Atlas Creator.

I have a Dakota 10 and recently went to Portugal. I didn't want to spend
a fortune on maps so got a free one from here...

Just download the relevant zip file, unzip and rename to something
sensible like "france.img". Copy this file to the "Garmin" folder of
your Dakota storage (you should see other folders in here like
"Filters","GPX",etc.). Copy your waypoints into that "GPX" folder.
