The thing that prevents me from buying a lifetime update for my present
Garmin model is that the lifetime maps cannot be transferred to a new
Garmin that I buy. I suppose many people here replace their Garmins for
new ones every few years, so the their "lifetime" map updates are only
good for that old model's "lifetime" in your possession.
What happens if your lifetime map updated Garmin dies?
I should be able to go to the Garmin registration site and remove the
old Garmin, add the new one and have Garmin continue the map updates on
the new one. What's the problem with that other than Garmin's greed,
or as you phrased it, 'ripping off'?
BTW. I do not have, never had, nor want, any pirated maps for my Garmins.
I did buy a single map update for my Nuvi 765 once, but within a few
months it became outdated. My Garmin shows a nag screen reminding me of
that on an irregular basis when I start it up.
