On my down to Northampton the other day, I'd only got as far as the A19
flyover at Teesside when my TomTom started going loopy.

It kept going to the 'Get Help' menu, despite me frantically hitting the
'back' button to get back to the map. At first I thought it might have been
overheating as the sun was low and shining directly onto the unit. So I
took it off the mount and lay it on the passenger seat for 20mins before
re-trying - but the fault remained. Then tried resetting it with a
paper-clip before re-booting... no joy. Gave up on it and used the TomTom
on my PDA for the remainder of the journey.

The following day I tried it again and it was still constantly doing phantom
'screen presses' in the top right hand corner.

On my way back home I managed to get it working for the whole 3hr journey
back home but it has since started playing up again.

There's nothing behind the screen that I can see that could be registering
false presses, so it's got me a bit stumped.

Any ideas?

I've since had it to bits, looking for anything that could be pressing
against the screen around the edge. Couldn't find anything and the fault
was still there, intermittently - UNTIL I removed the rubber seal between
the screen & case. Since then it has worked flawlessly for a few weeks of
fairly intense use (touches wood!!)
