You are right, I'm sorry I didn't offer material to this thread that
was so much more cogent to the topic as you've done, further along.

Those little glad handing moments between friends are so important,
they should always be the bulk of content here on a newsgroup about
garmin gps.

Colossus of Rhodes, `Straddling' ... yes yes, far better topical
content on a NG about garmin gps, than questions about .. gps.

Thanks for putting in the time to add those meaningful touches.

I stand corrected.

Sounds like you've got your answer, but why now turn the question
around?
How about a GPS with camera functions embedded?

The Garmin Montana 650t, for example.
A really nice unit, if a bit pricey!
For the work we do, it's perfect!! I have no problems recommending
it.

Also - try looking up GPS dataloggers on www.bhphoto.com or www.adorama.com
assuming you are in the US.
There are some that you can take the chip out of your camera, slip it
in this little box widget, and it will write the metadata back to the
photos.
Or, as others have mentioned, there is some PC and iPhone software out
there that can do the same thing with an existing GPS unit you might
already own.

Don't forget to adjust the time on the camera before you start, or take a
picture of the GPS showing the time, so you can correlate.

I think good tagging programs have some accomodation for that, but when I
was doing it manually, it was better to adjust before than after.

My old camera would sync the time with the PC every time I uploaded.

My Motorola Atrix phone has an 8 MB pixel camera, and geotags by default.
I can see raw gps coordinates with an Android app called ImageDetail, or
after uploading to Picasaweb.com. I can also check properties on the photo
on the phone and invoke "map", which sometimes brings up Google Maps at the
location, sometimes says there is no gps data available, although Picasa
works on the same photo, and ImageDetail shows the gps details.

Thank you for reminding me.

I always keep my camera set to UTC and then adjust the timestamps of the
photos for local time and DST afterwards where necessary. I find it's a lot
less trouble when travelling than remembering (and sometimes forgetting) to
adjust the camera for local time.

I think I saw somewhere that there cameras with gps that have a holiday
function: enter the number of hours offset during your holiday.
