Can any users here tell me if there is such a thing as a camera that
has integrated gps functions. Maybe something like adding the gps
coordinates to the metadata attached to each image.

One example among *many* is the Sony DSC-HX9V.

Yes, many upper end cameras have the ability. Hasselblad is one if
you have a lot of coin, but I think all the majors have some models
that will do what you want.

I *really* can't remember the name of the program, but it was a some sort
of cross-platform mapping thingy I saw some while (couple of years??) ago,
very much in beta stages, but which could take a recorded trail from a
number of GPS devices and then match that with the time/date stamps on
your photos from any digital camera.

The word "orange" comes to mind, but that might be way off. Definitely
not the Orange mobile phone company.

Just Googled on the terms:

mapping open source gps camera

....and there's a number of links to photo geotagging software, including
the first link to http://code.google.com/p/gpicsync/ which tags your
photos from a GPX track log onto Google Earth. I didn't look into it in
enough detail to find out if POIs can be transferred to GE or if it can
work the other way, but it might be what you are looking for.

There are many applications that will do this. I use this one on an Apple
Mac: <http://www.houdah.com/houdahGeo/>

When I'm taking photos I carry my GPSmap 76 which records a continuous
tracklog of my movements. Then when I return to base I load the tracklog and
the images into HoudahGeo, which will the match the timestamp of each image
with a tracklog point and geotag the image file with the coordinates. It's a
very simple process.

Once again, you are a tad bit shy on detail. This is a newsgroup not
an IRC channel or text message.

Can you explain or are you in a great hurry? Fingers injured? What?

Does it just happen by default, do you do something to make it happen
etc etc.
