2450LM Doesn't Say "Recalculating"

I have had a couple of Garmins before this one that (annoyingly) said
"Recalculating" every time a recalc was needed, but the 2450LM simply
recalculates and keeps navigating toward the destination silently.

I have tried different (TTS) voices to see if that was what made the
difference but it just recalcs and keeps you going toward the
destination. Does anyone here have a 2450 and know if this is normal
behavior?

I have looked in the voice file with TTS Voice Editor and the word
"recalculating" is present in the voice file that I am using..

Any comments on whether this is a new feature or a "bug" <G>

I have a 2370 and it is the same. I consider it a feature.

Hi Bob
I have a 2460. I don't consider this a feature. I have gone 2 or 3 miles out
of my way because I didn't relize I had missed a turn. I would rather the
recalculatiing voice command and if possible made a uturn.
BTW, I posted a message a couple of days ago about slow route calculations.
Have you had any such problems.
Harold

It's a feature. Look in this NG and you'll see my posting about a reply
I received from Garmin when I complained about this on my 2460LMT. I
can't understand what the hell they were thinking. It is true that many
people 'complained' about the constant nagging, but at least they should
have made it an option if they were taking it away. I'd even live with
it not being the default it one could turn it back on.

I do as well. While I don't really like my GPS constantly talking to me, I
do like to be informed that it is aware that I have missed my turn (or
changed it) and that the device is aware of and keeping up with me.

I don't know about all of you, but I don't keep my eyes on the device most
of the time and prefer to listen for the voice prompts to let me know what's
going on.

It would have been trivial for Garmin software developers to give
users the option to hear "Recalculating" or not. Even if the default
is off, they should have provided an easy way to turn it on for those
who want it. Personally, I'd turn it on.

None of us keep our eyes on the GPS most of the time unless we are
stopped and entering data into it.
My portable GPS in is the left corner of my windshield on my dash. The
only view it blocks is the backs of my reg. and inspection stickers and
a small part of the hood (bonnet). I only have to glance at it when
needed, and my peripheral vision is still on the roadway ahead.
I would not pay extra for a new vehicle with the GPS in the dash center.

I would if it was $200 or less. I like the portable because it can go
in the company pickup if I use it and I've taken it to Europe, rather
that rent one.

This was an option on my dear, departed StreetPilot 2160. I turned it off
out of annoyance. I can't remember if the current Nuvi has it, as my wife
drives that car 99% of the time, and I've been using either my eTrex or my
Android phone myself.

At my age, I need to take it out of my car when I shop in the large
galleria type malls. When I come out of the mall, I can just ask the
GPS, "Dude, where's my car"?
In the smaller malls, I just scan the lot looking for a green vehicle
amongst all the various shades of gray ones.
